In a tense and closely watched case, the High Court convened to address the abduction of Wajir MCA Yusuf Hussein Ahmed, who had mysteriously vanished on September 13, 2024.
The courtroom, usually filled with reporters and concerned citizens, stood empty of the public and media, as Justice Alexander Muteti on Monday October 7,2024 ordered the proceedings to be held in camera, citing significant security concerns.
The abduction was particularly alarming, as five armed men believed to be police officers had intercepted Ahmed’s taxi near the Industrial Area Police Station, dragging him from the vehicle.
Since then, his family had been in a state of anguish, demanding answers about his whereabouts.
During the hearing on Monday, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Amin Mohamed who were expected to explain the whereabouts or the state of investigations in regard to the politician presented an urgent application to the court.
They claimed to possess confidential intelligence that could reveal the fate of Ahmed, but sharing this information openly posed a risk to ongoing investigations and national security.
The atmosphere in the courtroom shifted as the judge weighed the implications of allowing sensitive information to be disclosed publicly.
Justice Muteti granted the application, allowing only Ahmed’s family lawyers Danstan Omari, Shadrack Wambui, and LSK representative Hosea Manwa to remain in the courtroom.
The judge instructed all others to leave including the journalist and friends and close relatives to the missing Wajir MCA, emphasizing the need for confidentiality to protect both the integrity of the investigation and the safety of individuals involved.
As the courtroom emptied, a palpable tension lingered.
Family members outside expressed their frustration and fear, uncertain about the secrets being kept from them.
The judge proceeded with the proceedings, where the police and DCI presented their findings, indicating potential links to organized crime and high-level corruption.
The urgency of the case drew attention from various advocacy groups and political entities, all demanding accountability and transparency.
Yet, under the cloak of secrecy mandated by the court, many details remained shrouded in mystery, leaving the public to grapple with unanswered questions and mounting anxiety about the fate of their representative.
In a affidavit filed in court by security personnels reveals that close individuals to the missing politician had declined to record statements with detectives causing frustrations to the probe.
” The IG and DCI have faced challenges securing persons of interest for interrogation and who are well known to the cousin of Ahmed,” states the affidavit deponed by chief inspector Jared Seko.
The IG and DCI boss urged the court to discharge the summons against them and allow them to conduct investigations into the matter unhindered.
