EACC Investigates Alleged Payroll Fraud and Ghost Workers in Nandi County

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched an investigation into allegations of theft of public funds through ghost workers and payroll fraud in Nandi County.

The commission’s probe comes in response to reports indicating that numerous fictitious employees may have been placed on the county payroll, leading to significant financial losses.

In a statement, the EACC revealed that their investigation aims to identify the individuals involved in this alleged scheme and to recover any misappropriated funds.

The commission’s focus on Nandi County follows mounting evidence that suggests the existence of ghost workers—individuals who do not actually perform any duties but continue to receive salaries funded by taxpayer money.

The EACC has expressed frustration over the county government’s lack of compliance with requests for documents and information crucial to the investigation.

In light of this noncompliance, the commission announced its intention to seize relevant documents and records to ensure a thorough examination of the payroll processes.

“The commission is committed to rooting out corruption and ensuring accountability in the use of public funds,” stated an EACC spokesperson.

“We will take all necessary actions, including seizing documents, to uncover the truth behind these allegations.”

This investigation comes at a critical time when public scrutiny of county governments is increasing, particularly regarding the management of finances and the integrity of payroll systems.

If proven, the allegations of ghost workers and payroll fraud could result in serious legal repercussions for those involved, as well as significant financial implications for Nandi County.

As the EACC continues its inquiry, the commission is also calling for greater transparency and accountability in public service employment practices across the country, urging counties to implement stricter oversight measures to prevent such fraudulent activities in the future
