Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba revealed that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal will officially open in March 2025 for students applying for the September 2025 university intake.
This marks a significant milestone in the country’s tertiary education process, allowing thousands of students to secure their places for the upcoming academic year.
The opening of the KUCCPS portal comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline university admissions, offering more access and opportunities for students across the nation.
The portal will remain open for students who have successfully completed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, allowing them to apply for placement in degree programs at public and private universities.
“This is an exciting development for all students who are eager to pursue higher education,” said Ogamba in his press statement.
“The KUCCPS platform is integral to our goal of ensuring that university placement is both transparent and efficient, giving students a fair shot at joining a program that aligns with their career aspirations.”
In addition to the opening of the portal, Ogamba also clarified recent reports about the funding and admission requirements for the 2024 KCSE cohort.
He confirmed that the Government has not reintroduced cut-off points for university admission, and all students who attained a mean grade of C+ (plus) or above in the KCSE are eligible for university placement.
The Ministry further clarified that the projected cost for funding the education of the 2024 cohort is Ksh. 25.85 billion annually, not the previously cited figure of Ksh. 100 billion, which was an overestimate covering a four-year period.
KUCCPS had already opened its portal earlier this year, on January 24, for placement into Kenya Medical Training Colleges, Teacher Training Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions for March and May 2025 intakes.
Now, with the March opening for university placement, prospective students are encouraged to begin preparing their applications to secure their places for the September intake
The government’s commitment to equitable access to education remains a top priority, ensuring that all students have an opportunity to pursue further education, regardless of background or financial standing.
