On Sunday, August, 25,2024, a somber yet hopeful atmosphere enveloped Kimbo PFEA Church in Githurai as HE Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, the Leader of the Official Opposition, attended the Sunday service.
The service, led by Bishop James Wesonga, was imbued with a message of repentance and divine intervention for the nation.
Musyoka, who attended the Sunday service alongside prominent figures such as former Kiambu County Governor Hon Ferdinand Waititu, DAP Kenya Party Leader Hon Eugene Wamalwa, and Jubilee Party Secretary-General Hon Jeremiah Kioni, expressed gratitude to Bishop Wesonga for his sermon.
The bishop’s message on the nation’s need for repentance struck a chord with Musyoka.
“Let us pray for our Nation, Bishop Wesonga, for God to make a way for this country,” Musyoka urged the congregation.
He further added, “If we had 20 leaders like Bishop Wesonga, this country would be a very different place.”
Dr. Musyoka’s speech addressed the urgent need for transparency and justice following the tragic Githurai night of terror on June 25th, where police violence led to the deaths of an estimated 300 young men and women.
“It has been two months since these brutal killings, and we have not received any official account of the events. This lack of transparency is deeply troubling and unacceptable,” Musyoka stated.
Musyoka also highlighted the significant role of younger generations, asserting that Gen Z and Millennials are crucial in shaping Kenya’s future. “Kenya will never be the same again because of the energy and determination of our young people,” he affirmed.
In a separate but related issue, Musyoka vowed to combat what he described as a corrupt higher education funding model.
“We will mobilize this country to say No! to this corrupt higher education funding model,” he declared.
Emphasizing his commitment to defending democracy, he criticized Zakayo for failing the people of Kenya.
“We have the experience, the determination, and the prayers to stand in the gap and refuse to allow this country to go back into dictatorship,” Musyoka asserted.
Dr. Musyoka’s statements reflect a broader push for justice and reform in Kenya, as he continues to advocate for transparency and accountability amidst ongoing national crises.
