A middle-aged woman, Nasra Modhihiri Mohamed, was on Thursday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts, facing charges of conspiring to defraud her stepmother of a valuable piece of land in Eastleigh, Nairobi, valued at Ksh.110 million.
Nasra, the daughter of a prominent late Eastleigh businessman, pleaded not guilty to three charges: conspiracy to defraud, forgery, and obtaining land registration by false pretenses.
Nasra is accused of conspiring to unlawfully acquire ownership of land parcel LR NO.36/VII/465, which measures approximately 0.2085 hectares and is valued at Ksh.110 million.
According to the charge sheet, she allegedly forged a title deed for the land, presenting it as a legitimate document issued by the Ministry of Lands at Ardhi House.
In addition to the forgery charge, Nasra is also accused of obtaining the registration of the land under false pretenses.
It is alleged that she prepared an indenture of conveyance, claiming to have bought the land from her late father for Ksh.30 million, and subsequently registered the property in her name.
Through her lawyer, Nasra defended herself by stating that the complainant in the case was her stepmother, and emphasized that the dispute was part of an ongoing family matter, which she hoped could be resolved amicably.
Following her arraignment, Nasra was granted bail with a bond of Ksh.1 million or an alternative cash bail of Ksh.300,000.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned again on December 13 for pretrial
