Pominent businessman Christantus Philip Okeyo Obure, popularly known as Chris Obure, was On Tuesday charged in a Nairobi court with forgery and conspiracy to defraud a company of prime property in a six-year scheme targeting the high-value Senteu Plaza Building in Kilimani.
Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubu, the city businessman denied four criminal charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, forgery, and uttering a forged document.
The charges relate to a fraudulent scheme aimed at deceiving AC and Others Company Limited
According to the prosecution, between June 12, 2017, and October 9, 2023, Obure, along with accomplices not present in court, conspired to forge a Binding Board Resolution from the company.
At the same period of time, he was charged with forging a Binding Board Resolution purporting it to have been signed and stamped by Shah Director of AC and Others Ltd.
The court also heard that on February 10, 2024, at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI Headquarters Serious Crime Unit within Nairobi county knowingly and fraudulently uttered a forged Binding Board Resolution purporting it to have stamped and signed by Chandul Shah Director of the AC and Others Ltd.
He was further charged with giving false information to Geoffrey Ndatho, a police officer, at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi.
He falsely claimed that the resolution confirmed an agreement for the sale of Senteu Plaza, a prime property located at LR No. 1/1373, which was later determined to be a fraudulent transaction.
Obure denied all the charges in court. His defense lawyer, Patrick Lumumba, requested a lenient bond, emphasizing that bond is a constitutional right designed to ensure the accused’s appearance in court.
Magistrate Shitubi granted Obure bail setting the amount at Sh 500,000 with a surety of a similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh 200,000.
Obure’s case will be mentioned again on February 12, 2024.
Apart from the fresh fraud charges, Obure is currently facing murder charges in the High Court over the alleged death of a city car dealer Kelvin Omwenga.
He was charged following his arrest on August 21,2020 after Omwenga was murdered in his house at Galana Suites in Kilimani, Nairobi.
