Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo faced intense questioning from the Senate’s Committee on Public Accounts and Investments (CPAC) on March 26, 2025, over the county’s handling of KShs 5.8 billion in public funds for the fiscal year 2023/2024.
The Governor was grilled for failing to submit crucial financial documents on time, raising concerns about the transparency and accountability of the county’s financial management.
The CPAC, chaired by Moses Kajwang and Vice-Chair Jones Mwaruma, deliberated on the Auditor General’s report, which flagged significant issues with the county’s financial statements.
Senators expressed alarm over the late submission of expenditure reports, questioning how such a substantial amount of public funds could be managed without timely and proper documentation.
In response, the committee decided to launch a special inquiry into Nyamira’s financial management, including special audits to ensure that the funds were spent as intended.
The inquiry is set to scrutinize the county’s financial practices, with a focus on improving transparency and ensuring public funds are used responsibly.
The move underscores the Senate’s commitment to holding county governments accountable for the management of taxpayers’ money.
