The Ministry of Education has moved swiftly to clear up confusion surrounding the admission and funding of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort, following recent media reports.
In a statement, the Ministry CS Migos Ogamba assured the public that no new cut-off points have been introduced for university admission.
The standard requirement for university entry remains a Mean Grade of C+ (plus), which means all 246,391 students who achieved this grade or higher are qualified to join university.
Addressing widespread misinformation about funding, the Ministry clarified that it will not cost Ksh. 100 billion annually to finance the education of the 2024 KCSE cohort.
The correct figure is Ksh. 25.85 billion per year, with a total estimated cost of Ksh. 100 billion over four years—far less than previously suggested.
Additionally, the Ministry confirmed that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open its placement portal for the September 2025 intake in March 2025.
Since January 24, 2025, the KUCCPS portal has been available for students applying to Kenya Medical Training Colleges, Teacher Training Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions for the March and May 2025 intakes.
The Ministry emphasized its unwavering commitment to providing quality education that is inclusive and accessible to all students.
“We are dedicated to ensuring a system that offers equal opportunities and prepares students for future success,” said Cabinet Secretary Ogamba.
The Ministry urged the public and the media to rely on official communications for accurate details and to avoid spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary confusion.
