The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has made significant strides in recovering land that had been unlawfully acquired in Kisumu.
The commission on Tuesday, December 10,2024 announced the successful recovery of land valued at over Sh300 million.
Among the recovered properties are key plots, including land originally meant for Victoria Primary School, a road reserve designated for the Ministry of Transport, and land allocated to Kenya Railways Corporation.
The EACC’s recovery efforts are part of a broader initiative to safeguard public assets and restore land that was wrongfully taken from government institutions or public use.
The Victoria Primary School land, for instance, was intended to serve as a space for the community’s education needs.
The road reserve land, critical for transport infrastructure, was also illegally occupied, impeding vital development projects for the Ministry of Transport.
Similarly, the land intended for Kenya Railways was diverted, affecting essential transportation operations.
In addition to these recoveries, the EACC has multiple ongoing cases concerning land and environmental violations, with a total value of Sh10 billion.
These cases have been filed in the Land and Environment Court in Kisumu, and they involve further efforts to reclaim public land that was unlawfully taken.
The commission’s actions are seen as a significant step toward addressing land grabbing and ensuring that public assets are protected.
The successful recovery of these properties not only restores valuable resources to the government but also sends a strong message about the EACC’s commitment to fighting corruption and safeguarding the interests of the public.
