Ugandan music heavyweight Bebe Cool brought the Nairobi entertainment scene to a standstill on Tuesday with the much-anticipated launch of his latest album “BREAK THE CHAINS” at a star-studded event held at The Atrium, Aspire Centre in Westlands.
The exclusive conference and meet-up, which doubled as a cultural exchange and industry networking event, drew a host of notable figures from Kenya’s entertainment and fashion scene.
Among the high-profile guests were Kenyan reggae and dancehall icon Wyre and celebrated fashion designer Fundi Frank, who both praised Bebe Cool’s musical evolution and his cross-border influence.
Decked out in a sleek black designer outfit — rumoured to be a custom piece from a top Ugandan label — Bebe Cool was welcomed to the venue with thunderous applause from fans and media personnel who had gathered to witness the launch of an album already sparking buzz across East Africa.
Taking the podium, Bebe Cool delivered an impassioned speech, explaining the inspiration behind the 12-track album “BREAK THE CHAINS,” which blends Afrobeat, reggae, dancehall, and conscious lyrics aimed at challenging societal limitations and inspiring African youth.
“This album is not just music, it’s a movement. ‘Break the Chains’ speaks to our people, urging them to rise above fear, poverty, and all the mental shackles that hold us back. I chose Nairobi for this moment because Kenya has always been a second home and a melting pot for East African talent,” said Bebe Cool, real name Moses Ssali.
Tracks such as “Freedom Fire,” “One Voice,” “Mama Africa,” and the much-anticipated collaboration with Kenya’s own Wyre titled “Unchained”, have already started making rounds on digital platforms, with fans calling the sound “fresh, bold, and deeply African.”
Wyre, taking the mic, lauded the project as “one of the most important musical statements to come out of East Africa this year,” adding that the duo’s collaboration was rooted in years of mutual respect.
“This isn’t just music, it’s power with purpose,” Wyre stated
“Bebe Cool is reminding artists that we have a role to play in shaping the future of Africa’s identity through sound.”
Adding a touch of glamour to the event, renowned designer Fundi Frank presented a mini runway showcase inspired by the themes of the album.
His Afro-futuristic designs highlighted the fusion between tradition and modernity — an aesthetic reflected in Bebe Cool’s new artistic direction.
Other notable attendees included radio personalities, music producers, content creators, and influencers from across Nairobi’s vibrant creative scene.
Fans were also treated to a live acoustic performance, where Bebe Cool performed stripped-down versions of his new songs, showcasing his powerful vocals and emotional depth.
The atmosphere at the Atrium buzzed with excitement, as guests mingled, took photos, and engaged in lively discussions about regional collaborations, Pan-Africanism, and the future of East African music.
The launch marks a strategic move by Bebe Cool to cement his footprint across East Africa and beyond.
By choosing Kenya for the unveiling of “BREAK THE CHAINS,” he not only honors a loyal fanbase but also strengthens the Uganda-Kenya music ties that have long shaped the regional soundscape.
“Kenya and Uganda share more than just borders — we share rhythm, resilience, and a vision for a united creative Africa,” Bebe Cool emphasized.
“This album is my contribution to that dream.”
