Murder Suspect Nabbed in Kenyatta Hospital Ward Killings

A chilling mystery that has haunted the corridors of Kenyatta National Hospital may finally be coming to a close.

Homicide detectives have arrested Kennedy Kalombotole, the man believed to be behind a string of violent murders inside the country’s largest referral hospital.

His latest alleged victim: Edward Maingi Ndegwa, who was found brutally murdered in his hospital bed in Ward 7B, just days after being admitted.

The gruesome killing occurred on July 17,2025 with investigators saying Ndegwa was last seen alive around 1:30 p.m. by a visiting relative.

Just 30 minutes later, a cleaner discovered a shocking scene, blood pooling around the patient’s neck.

A swift lockdown of the ward followed.

Detectives traced bloody footprints leading from Ndegwa’s bedside to a nearby toilet and eventually to a side room, where the suspect himself was admitted.

There, they recovered damning evidence: a blood-stained bedsheet, a pair of blue slippers, and a knife wrapped in gloves, which had been thrown out a window.

The knife was recovered directly below the ward’s 7th-floor window where the deceased had been admitted

Kalombotole, who has been under scrutiny since his admission to the hospital on December 1, 2024, is also the main suspect in a previous murder that took place inside the hospital and shocked the world on the February 6–7 slaying of Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, 40, in Ward 7C.

Though a case file was earlier submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), prosecutors ordered further investigation to solidify the case.

Kalombotole’s arrest may now tie the threads together in a chilling pattern of attacks that have shaken the country’s confidence in hospital safety.

He remains in custody as investigators work round the clock to finalize investigations and charges before arraignment.
