The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced the appointment of 82 new principal officers across key departments, in a move aimed at strengthening managerial capacity and enhancing service delivery within the organization.
In a statement released on Saturday, December 13, SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, CBS, said the appointments follow a competitive and transparent recruitment process that began on July 29, 2025.
“The appointment of these officers is critical in supporting the Authority’s mandate as we continue to implement health reforms and ensure efficient delivery of services to Kenyans,” Dr. Mwangangi said.
The newly appointed officers will serve in strategic roles across SHA departments, including Human Resource Management and Development, Customer Experience, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Corporate Communication, Provider Management, Internal Audit, Records Management, Registration and Compliance, and Claims Management (County Operations).
The Authority highlighted that the appointments reflect a commitment to professionalism and excellence in service delivery, and that the officers will play a key role in advancing SHA’s flagship programs such as Bima Bora and Afya Nyumbani.
“We take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation to the dedicated staff for their unwavering support and commitment to the interim staff throughout this critical transition period,” Dr. Mwangangi added.
The list of officers appointed includes Susan Wanjiku O. Kafuto, Julius M. Mwanzia, Christine Mwende Muli, Martin Mbai Omukongolo, Florence Chepngetich, Jacob Mutua Kilungya, Brian Oketch, Beatrice Chemutai, Tom Obara Oboko, Mathew Mnene Gamaliel, Belinda Nzula Naikuni, Annastacia Nzovo, Lily Kimetto, Said Ibrahim Mohamed, Winfred Wandii Mulli, among others.
The appointments span both headquarters and county operations, ensuring that the Authority’s programs are effectively coordinated across Kenya.
The new leadership team is expected to focus on enhancing customer experience, streamlining operations, ensuring compliance, improving ICT systems, and reinforcing corporate communication strategies.
Dr. Mwangangi emphasized that this restructuring is aligned with SHA’s broader goal of expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare for all citizens.
“These appointments mark an important milestone in our efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of SHA and improve service delivery across the country,” the CEO noted.
The appointments also signify SHA’s continued commitment to competent and accountable leadership, reinforcing transparency and fairness in recruitment processes within the public health sector.
With the deployment of these principal officers, the SHA aims to ensure that its programs, including Bima Bora, the national health insurance initiative, and Afya Nyumbani, which brings healthcare services to households, are effectively managed and accessible to all Kenyans.
