Rwabwogo, the third-born child and second daughter of President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, was consecrated on Sunday, August 23, during celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of Covenant Nations Church at Covenant Hill in Maya, Wakiso District.

The historic ceremony was presided over by international evangelist Bishop Dr LaDonna C. Osborn, who served as chief consecrator, with Archbishop Moses Odongo and Bishop Joshua Lwere as co-consecrators.

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God also participated in the ceremony, leading the anointing with oil and prayers for the newly consecrated bishop.

Church elder Allen Kagina said Rwabwogo had been carefully assessed before being presented for the episcopal office.

“We have no spiritual, moral or ministerial impediment to her consecration,” Kagina told the congregation.

She described Rwabwogo’s journey as one that began with a small house fellowship 20 years ago before developing into Covenant Nations Church.

“Twenty years ago, God planted within her heart a vision that began humbly as a small house fellowship. What appeared small in the eyes of men carried within it the seed of a much greater work,” Kagina said.

The consecration is being described by church leaders as a significant milestone in Uganda’s Christian history, with Rwabwogo becoming the first woman to be ordained to the office of bishop in Uganda, according to multiple Ugandan reports.

First Lady Janet Museveni, who attended the ceremony with President Museveni, expressed joy at seeing her daughter take up the new responsibility.

“Today, we celebrate the consecration of our daughter, Patience, to the office of a Bishop. We are overwhelmed with joy and thanksgiving at the great honour You have bestowed over us in choosing one of our children to serve You in this capacity,” she said.

President Museveni also celebrated his daughter’s elevation, saying the occasion was a major moment for the family after her 20 years of ministry.

“Today, Maama and I were very happy to witness the consecration of our daughter, Patience, as a Bishop of Covenant Nations Churches in Uganda after 20 years of ministry,” Museveni said.

The President revealed that he and the First Lady marked the occasion by giving their daughter 50 cows, in keeping with cultural tradition.

Rwabwogo had earlier described her elevation as a call to greater service, saying: “As scripture reminds us, promotion comes from the Lord. I receive this calling with humility and gratitude because it carries greater responsibility to serve God’s people.”

The ceremony brought together senior Christian leaders, government officials, family members and congregants, marking both the culmination of Rwabwogo’s two decades of ministry and the beginning of her new role as a bishop.

The Bar through its Chairman, Senior Counsel Philip Murgor, says Karua was detained while in Uganda to attend the court mention and bail ruling of Hon. Erias Lukwago and has been denied access to her lawyers, defence team and family.

The Senior Counsel Bar said the detention and threatened deportation of Karua violated her rights and amounted to interference with her duties as an advocate representing a client before a Ugandan court.

The Bar has demanded that Karua be granted immediate access to her lawyers, family and the Kenyan diplomatic mission, while calling for any deportation process to be halted pending lawful determination.

The statement further urged the diplomatic missions of Kenya and the international community, alongside relevant United Nations Special Procedures, to urgently intervene in the matter.

The Senior Counsel Bar of Kenya demanded “the immediate and unconditional release of Hon. Martha Karua SC, and non-interference as she goes about her duties in Uganda and elsewhere as a duly accredited advocate to appear before a Ugandan Court to represent an accused person.”

In a string of incendiary posts on social media platform X late Monday, Muhoozi used highly inflammatory language, declaring he was “praying” for Wine’s death and giving him exactly 48 hours to surrender himself to the police, warning that failure to comply would see Wine treated as an “outlaw/rebel” and dealt with accordingly.

Muhoozi did not hold back in his attacks on opposition leader Bobi Wine, branding him a “baboon” and labeling supporters of his National Unity Platform (NUP) party as “terrorists.”

“As for Kabobi, the permanent loser, I’m giving him exactly 48 hours to surrender … If he doesn’t, we will treat him as an outlaw/rebel and handle him accordingly,” the general wrote, referring to the charismatic pop‑star‑turned‑politician by a derogatory nickname.

Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has been in hiding since what he describes as a heavy military and police raid on his home late last week. 

Speaking from an undisclosed location, the opposition leader rejected the ultimatum, accusing the military and police of targeting his family and plotting to harm him.

“I will resurface when I decide,” Wine said in his defiant response, adding that authorities had previously raided his residence and placed his family under effective house arrest.

The dramatic exchange comes in the aftermath of Uganda’s contentious presidential election held on January 15, 2026, in which long‑time President Yoweri Museveni claimed victory with over 70% of the vote.

 Opposition figures, election observers and critics have condemned the vote as marred by alleged fraud, violence, intimidation and internet shutdowns.

Security forces have also been accused of using excessive force against supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Wine’s political party.

 Muhoozi’s posts claimed that Ugandan forces had already killed dozens of NUP members in ongoing clashes, a claim that has fuelled fears of escalating political violence.

Political analysts say the public threats by a senior military commander, who is widely believed to be positioning himself as his father’s successor, represent an alarming breach of democratic norms and could further destabilize the already tense political environment.

Civil society groups and human rights defenders have condemned the rhetoric as dangerous and counter‑productive to peace.

International observers are now watching closely, with calls for restraint and respect for constitutional processes growing louder as the 48‑hour deadline looms.
