Koimburi appeared before Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi at a Nairobi court, where he denied two criminal charges: conspiracy to defeat justice and giving false information to police regarding the alleged abduction.

The charges come weeks after the legislator failed to appear in court on two separate occasions, prompting the issuance of a warrant of arrest to compel his attendance and plea.

According to the charge sheet, on May 25, 2025, in Mugutha area, Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County, Koimburi, acting in common intention with others, conspired to defeat justice by staging his own abduction.

The move was allegedly aimed at preventing his arrest and arraignment at the Kiambu Law Courts, where he was expected to face four land fraud charges.

“The MP, while admitted at Karen Hospital, issued a press statement to the effect that he had been abducted by some criminals,” the prosecution told the court.

In a second count, Koimburi is accused of providing false information through a YouTube video on June 7, 2025, claiming he had been abducted and tortured.

The statement, according to the prosecution, was knowingly false and intended to cause public panic.

Magistrate Ekhubi granted Koimburi a cash bail of KSh 300,000, and directed him to provide three contact persons to guarantee his attendance throughout the trial.

Additionally, the MP was ordered to report to Kilimani Police Station in the company of his lawyer for fingerprint processing.

Four of Koimburi’s co-accused, Kanyenya-ini MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Muhia, have already been charged and denied involvement in the alleged scheme.

According to the prosecution, the group conspired to fake the MP’s kidnapping in an effort to delay or obstruct his prosecution in a KSh 10 million land fraud case, as recommended in a letter from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) dated May 20, 2025.

Initial reports indicated that Koimburi had been abducted outside a church service.

He was later found in a plantation in Ruiru, reportedly in a disoriented state, before being taken to Plainsview Hospital and subsequently transferred to Karen Hospital.

The criminal case will be mentioned on August 5, 2025, when all six accused persons are expected to appear in court for pre-trial proceedings.
